Choreographic Lab - Ashes to Ashes
Spanski Borci - Ljubjana Slovenia
15-19 February 2026

Supported by EFFEA, Dance Festival Malta and En Knap, this choreographic lab invites contemporary dancers to step into a research-based creative process rooted in the themes of soil, transformation, and shared humanity. Drawing inspiration from the ongoing project Ashes to Ashes, the lab explores how movement emerges from lived experience, collective memory, and the physical relationship between the body and the ground. Through guided improvisation and compositional tasks, participants investigate weight, resistance, release, and connection. Working both individually and as a group, dancers will explore how standing, falling, grounding, and rising shift when attention is placed on soil as a metaphor and physical reference,  a space where difference becomes fertile. Voice, breath, and rhythm will be used as catalysts for movement, translating abstract testimonies into physical language. The lab prioritises presence, listening, and curiosity over form, offering a supportive environment for experimentation and exchange.

This project is supported by EFFEA, Dance Festivals Malta, En Knap, Otra Danza, Mosaico Danza and Malta International Arts Festival.
