XLOKK

​ Xlokk is a contemporary dance work by Dorian Mallia that explores the living heritage of Maltese folk music through movement, live sound and storytelling. Inspired by the traditions of għana, the performance reimagines the voices, rhythms and emotions of Malta’s oral culture, transforming them into a physical language that speaks to contemporary audiences.
Accompanied by an original composition by Albert Garzia, performed live by musicians Mariele Żammit and Andrew Alamango, Xlokk creates a dialogue between tradition and innovation. As the music unfolds, the dancers embody the stories hidden within the songs, revealing themes of identity,memory and belonging that continue to resonate today.
Named after the warm southeastern wind, Xlokk reflects the cultural influences that have shaped the Maltese Islands for centuries, celebrating the rich connections between Malta, the Mediterranean and the people whose stories live on through music and dance.
