ROOTS - Ripple Effect/ Dear You/ Ikigai
Roots is a triple bill dance production by Moveo Dance Company that brings together choreography, visual composition, and live music in an exploration of movement, human connection, and artistic collaboration.
Created by three Maltese choreographers, Dorian Mallia, Diane Portelli, and Francesca Tranter, with live piano performance by Tricia Dawn Williams, Roots revisits the foundations of Moveo’s artistic language, placing physical technique, expressive movement, and visual imagery at the centre of the performance.
The production features three choreographic works, each offering a different perspective on the human experience.
Dorian Mallia’s Dear You is inspired by a love letter written by the choreographer to the moon, exploring the intimate relationship between humanity and this celestial presence, and the ways in which the moon influences and inspires our movement.
Francesca Tranter’s Ikigai draws inspiration from the Japanese concept of finding purpose and meaning in life, reflecting on the search for fulfilment, balance, and personal identity.
Diane Portelli’s Ripple Effect examines human relationships and the impact of individual actions, exploring how emotions, choices, and behaviours can create consequences that extend beyond us.
