Għajn Xtutna (Eyes of our Shores) is a contemporary dance work inspired by Malta’s ancient watchtowers, the silent guardians that have watched over the island’s coastline for centuries. Created by Moveo Dance Company and choreographed by Cheryl Lofreda, Charlotte Curmi and Gabriele Facrinacci the work transforms these historical symbols of protection and vigilance into a powerful reflection on identity, resilience and the challenges of our time.
Through movement, imagery and a dynamic contemporary language, the dancers travel between past and present, exploring the watchtowers not only as physical structures, but as metaphors for awareness, community and collective strength. The performance captures the relationship between Malta, its shores and the people who have always been shaped by the surrounding sea.
Għajn Xtutna invites audiences on an emotional journey through fear, endurance and unity, reimagining the “eyes of our shores” as a reminder of how we continue to protect, adapt and look towards the future together.
